Liebe Nutzerinnen und Nutzer, die Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg bereitet derzeit die Umstellung auf ein neues, modernes Bibliotheksmanagementsystem vor: WorldShare Management Services (WMS) des Anbieters OCLC. Im Zuge der Umstellung wird auch der bisherige Bibliothekskatalog HEIDI abgelöst.

The Department

The Department of Ancient History and Epigraphy has been an independent seminar at the University of Heidelberg since 1928. It is dedicated to research and teaching in all areas of Ancient History and draws students and researchers from all over the world.

Research

Research at the department covers the entire breadth of ancient history from the archaic period to late antiquity. It is characterized by innovative methodological approaches and intensive basic scientific work, particularly in Latin and Greek epigraphy and numismatics.

Academic Studies

At the Department of Ancient History and Epigraphy in Heidelberg, you can study the history of the Ancient World in its whole breadth. The courses offered here are distinguished by their thematic variety, by a strong focus on foundational capabilities (Epigraphy, Numismatics, Papyrology) and by a large number of methodic approaches to historic questions. With its excellent library, and the proximity to the neighbouring institutes from the Classical Studies, the Department offers the best opportunities for successfully studying Ancient History at the highest level.
